Services

Here at the Haydon Auction Barn we auction entire estates and small consignments, including antiques, home furnishings, houseware, electronics, collectibles, rare coins and currency, sports memorabilia, glassware and china, tools, liquidations and closeouts.

All items are sold unreserved to the highest bidder, unless otherwise instructed.

Please give us a call if you think you have items you might want to consign to auction. If you don't know if your items are suitable for auction you should have us take a look at your items. You may have some valuble antiques or collectibles and not realize it.

If you would just like an idea of what an item might sell for at one of our auctions, you can either e-mail us a photo or Rod can quite often give you an idea over the phone.

The Auction Location
Most sale are held at our facility located in Haydon On. aprox. 13 km north of Bowmanville and just east of Durham Regional Road #57. The "Auction Barn" is a large, bright facility with a seating capacity of 200. Most sales are held on Mondays and on long weekend holidays.

An "on-site" auction is a sale held on your property. These sales are generally farm or business sales, although estate and moving sales can also be held at your home, if you prefer, and if the value of your items and location of your property and parking facilities warrants it. We are computerized and equipped to handle payments by Visa, MasterCard and Debit if we are able to connect to a phone line at "on-site" sales. Of course, cash payments are always accepted.

Preparation for The Auction
Items consigned to auction must have a practical, collectible or antique value and should be packed the easiest way possible in order to ensure nothing breaks in transit. Broken, Dirty, Incomplete or Non-functioning items will generally not be accepted and if an exception is made a repair or clean up charge may be applied. We go through every box to determine how each item should be sold. All items we receive are given a "code" by which we identify who consigned the item to us. It is at our discretion how the items are sold. "Box lot" or "job lot" items are those which have little or no value if sold individually and will be grouped together with other similar items, generally in a box, in order to get a bid on them.

No Reserve Auction

Please be aware that we conduct 'no reserve' auctions. Your items will be sold to the highest bidder on sale day, whatever the high bid may be.

Commission
When the proceeds of each sale are tallied, a commission is deducted and a cheque is mailed to the consignor. A higher commission rate is charged on all items which sell as a "box lot" or "job lot" or if a lot sells for under a certain dollar amount; otherwise our standard rate applies.

Clean-up Fee
If we don't get a bid on one or more of your items, you may take it back; otherwise, we dispose of it and you may be charged a disposal or "clean-up" fee. The fee is based on the weight of the item(s). Please advise us when booking your sale if you want any "no sale" items back.

Advertising
We handle the advertising for each sale and we advertise extensively in newspapers as well as on the internet. If the sale is held at our facility we pay for all the advertising. When booking a sale, please advise us whether or not you would like to have your name, or estate name, or business name advertised.

Delivery
Whether you have just one item or an entire household, consignments should be booked in advance by phone or email. Deliveries will be accepted by appointment. No deliveries will be accepted on sale day.

Pick-up

If you are unable to deliver your items to our sales barn, we can arrange to have them picked up at an hourly rate, (currently $95.00/hr min. 3 hours + $40 fuel for local area move.) which includes traveling time to and from our facility in Haydon.

Taxes & Proceeds
We are responsible for collecting and remitting the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) on all items sold.
Your cheque along with an itemized summary
of the sale of your items will be delivered to you after the auction.
